Parallel Truths @ WOW x WOW

WOW x WOW Gallery proudly presents Parallel Truths. Opening on wowxwow.com at 7pm BST on 5th June and running until 26th June, the exhibition features over 40 incredible international artists and consists of more than 50 fabulous artworks.

We may never meet the artists whose work we so greatly admire. We may never have the opportunity to learn first-hand about those works that stir our emotions and thoughts so deeply. We may live in times, places and cultures that differ vastly from those of the creator’s, and our opinions and worldviews may be poles apart. The meanings and concepts we derive from their artworks may be discrete or differing from the artist’s original intentions. However, through their work we are connected on a fundamental level as human beings, and the fact that their creations speak to us, shows that these connections wield the power to transcend many boundaries. Our interpretations of artworks carry forth the relevance of those creations to future generations. And while these interpretations may vary, they are all valid. They all run alongside each other, in possession of their own truths; ‘Parallel Truths’.

New Prints!

Like many of us, I’ve been terrified yet inspired by the recent events and the coronavirus outbreak. I’ve recently been drawing pandemic-themed characters specifically referencing historical plague doctors from the Black Death in the form of birds. I rarely offer prints but these works seemed particularly relevant.

Pandemic Art

I’ve been terrified yet inspired by the recent events and the coronavirus pandemic. My work has always featured dark elements and using plague imagery, literally and metaphorically, is my way of coping with the stress and fear in myself and others around me. As a fan of dystopian fiction, I imagined global pandemics were always a possibility in my lifetime. Currently working from home, I am trying to maintain my sense of humor, and you can see it popping out in my recent drawings. But ultimately it’s the disquieting undertone of a locked down world that really informs my drawings. I don’t envy future generations grappling with cyclical global pandemics but kids born into this environment will most likely adapt to the new world order.

GHOSTS AFLAME
ONLINE GROUP EXHIBITION
6TH – 27TH MARCH 2020
WOW x WOW Gallery proudly presents Ghosts Aflame.

Memory plays a vital role in the artistic creative process, informing and inspiring everything from aesthetics to subject matter. When memory and the imagination combine, an artist’s creative scope is truly limitless and the vast array of incredible accomplishments throughout art history are a testament to this fact. Recent Harvard studies have shown that when we reminisce about something we’ve experienced in the past, it utilizes something known as episodic memory. This in turn helps to trigger divergent, or creative, thinking. Memories are such curious entities in themselves, with their often hazy, nebulous quality and ghostlike ability to rise to consciousness. In our creative pursuits, we must remain alert and give attention to those memories that glow and even shine bright. We must honour those ‘Ghosts Aflame’.

Long Strange Trip @ Nielsen Arts

Long Strange Trip
12/7/19 – 2/8/20

Opening Reception: Saturday, Dec. 7, 6-9pm

To celebrate their 10 year anniversary Nielsen Arts asked for a little help from their friends. 60+ Artists that Nielsen has worked with over the years and new friends that we look forward to partnering with have been invited to their 10 x 10 Panel show. They asked the artists to just “do their thing” and the show promises to show the range of art that Nielsen has exhibited over the last 10 years. The show will include painting, collage, sculpture drawings, mosaics and more… all on the same, 10″ x 10″ birchwood panel. Happy Anniversary to Nielsen indeed!
