SFMOMA Soapbox Derby

Sunday, April 10, 2022

I had so much fun at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Soapbox Derby event at McLaren Park in San Francisco on Sunday, 4/10. Many (57) amazing derby cars made by local Bay Area artists competed for trophies made by local artists. Thanks to my awesome pit crew Mary Kalin-Casey, John C. Rogers, Stephanie Silk, Brett Durrett, and Tangee Boyce! And of course all the awesome SFMOMA folks and volunteers who made it all come together. Thanks to my friends who came out to show support as well. I was so surprised and happy to get the Fastest Car trophy made by the legendary Wanxin Zhang!!

Familiar Strangers @ WOW x WOW

WOW x WOW is incredibly proud to present Familiar Strangers. Opening on wowxwow.com at 7pm GMT on 4th March and running until 25th March, the exhibition will feature over 90 incredible original artworks by more than 80 super talented international artists.

Many of the works of art we appreciate, admire and connect with in our lifetimes are created by people we don’t know, and will never know personally. Some may have been created hundreds of years ago by artists long since passed away. Others might have been created recently by contemporary artists living on the other side of the world, who we will never have any interaction with. However, despite not knowing these creators personally, we develop profound and lasting connections with their creations, falling in love with the imagination, vision and humanity within. The artworks provide us with wonderful insights into aspects of the creator’s being that resonate with our own, helping us form deeply meaningful relationships with these ‘Familiar Strangers’.

Cosmic Elixir @ WOW x WOW

WOW x WOW is incredibly proud to present Cosmic Elixir. Opening on wowxwow.com at 7pm GMT on 7th January and running until 28th January, the exhibition will feature over 60 incredible original artworks by more than 50 super talented international artists.

Cosmic: [adjective] of or relating to the cosmos rather than to the earth alone.

Elixir: [noun] a substance, with a magical power to cure, improve, or preserve something.

During productive periods, the inspiration required for creativity is often in abundance, while at other, more challenging times, can be utterly elusive. It is of vital importance for an artist to engage in stimulating pursuits, the kind that encourage and develop inspiring thoughts and ideas. Imposing limitations on the creative process might suit some individuals, however, when it comes to setting oneself up for the reception of inspiration, it would be safe to say that limitations are barriers, not passageways. Therefore, we must remain open to everything the universe has to offer, and whenever possible, tap into the power and wonder of the ‘Cosmic Elixir’.

The entire exhibition can now be accessed via the link below. All sales will be on a first come, first served basis. Purchases can be made through the website, either with a debit/credit card or via PayPal. In the unlikely event that you encounter any issues, please email us at sales@wowxwow.com and we will be very happy to assist.
